Walleye – did someone say Walleye? They’re Back!!

Remember the newspaper story last decade when a small plane was traveling over Lake Erie and noticed a dark cloud in the water stretching for miles? It was a massive school of walleye – the stage is set again!

The great walleye nurseries along the shores of Lake Erie and in particular in the feeder waterways and the shallower Lake Erie Western Basin, have once again in 2003 produced a tremendous spawn of walleye – not since 1982 has there been such a successful hatch. These walleye are now three years old and ravenous! Last year we saw an increasing number of these young fish. This year there will be some good schools of 2-3 lb walleye off of Erieau. But don't forget - there are still some of those monster 10+ pounders cruising off Erieau. You never know when your going to hook-up with a Trophy.

The population of perch in Lake Erie is good. Nice schools of good sized perch roam the waters off Rondeau Park up to Morpeth and Glasgow, the mouth of Rondeau Bay, and the shoreline west to Dealtown. When they’re on the bite, we hear about it.
